Today Derek and I went to Ireland Army Hospital to have our first appointment for our pregnancy. For Derek and I this pregnancy was kind of a shocker, but we had been trying and were both overcome with joy. I was 2wks late until I decided, Hey I might be pregnant?! Derek was like, "the test says to take it in the morning." But i was taking it at 2pm in the afternoon because I was thinking the virus i thought i had was probably morning sickness aka all DAY sickness. So it was March 15th and I had a positive pregnancy test within 5seconds, Derek of course was like well your going to have to take another one in the morning just to be "certain." I knew it was certain, because unlike him i was having the symptoms. The last two weeks has been constant nausea and vomitting, ive been eating popsicles, saltines, cheese cubes, ginger ale, whole wheat/grain pasta, fajita meat.....anything else can be guaranteed to be thrown up. Ok so back to today's adventure. We got to Ireland and needless to say we were both ready to fight because turns out the referrals through our tricare insurance were diverted to the Army Hospital, which I hate to say but would not be the level of care a high risk pregnancy would need. As most of you know I have lupus, and along with that means im automatically high risk for more complications. This for Derek and I means more appt's, being closely monitored. We will find out more tomorrow at our high risk appt. We are seeing Dr. Weeks at UofL, since I work in a hospital...mother baby unit I am well aware that Dr. Weeks is the BEST in Louisville and will help us get through whatever we may be up against. He also works in the same building as my Rheumatologist, which they will be able to monitor me and baby together. Back to our appt....we had our basic genetic hx questions, medical, and health then we went and did the sonogram which was so neat. We saw the little heart pumping so fast it was really cool. Derek was like is that the baby.....its a Peanut! The bump website says our baby is the size of a rasberry this week, but peanut will work to. We then went to grab some lunch at the PX.....i had pizza which actually stayed down! I honestly think we were both relieved after the sonogram that the baby is growing and had a heartbeat. The sonographer said "As sick as you are, this baby is doing good." This was after I threw up in her office trash can! We came back to the hospital at 1pm for my physical, we did the cervical exam and dopler to hear the baby's heartbeat which was in the 170's. Derek and I were like what are we listening for again....we were kind of lost in my heartbeat and swoosh's the baby was making when it moved. Derek and I were so relieved that we got a referral off of base and I wont have to be driving 45min to Fort Knox. I then had to go to the lab and do a glucose test (due to family hx of diabetes) and labwork. Well i drank the stupid orange drink and right now anything sweet comes right back up, so up came the glucose drink. I had my labs drawn and was finally on my way home at 4pm...long day, full of excitement for derek, me and baby:)
