3wks old

Dreycin is now 3wks old! I cant believe how time is flying! Derek's mom came for a couple days during thanksgiving. Its hard to imagine next year Dreycin will get to have his own turkey! The last week things havent gotten much better with his acid reflux/colic. Its so sad to see when he is in pain, he pulls his legs up to his tummy and has this frown on his face, plus you can hear the milk come back up his throat and then he tries to swallow it back down. We are going back to the doctor on wednesday. In the meantime I went and got some gripe water and probiotics (which baby411 recommended) It just seems that the zantac worked for a few days but then it got worse again? You will also see in the pics that we have propped up his playard bed because my mom said that in the NICU they prop their babies on a wedge that have acid reflux.....again I AM SO LUCKY to have my mom aka the baby nurse here with us! We have also done the same thing to his bed and he is sleeping much better in both!

Baby 411

So this book Baby 411 that my dear friend Misty got me is awesome, anytime i have a question i just open up this book and it has ALL the answers and more in it. Its my baby bible. I have it sitting on my nightstand right now, easy access! Well anyways, the last 5days or so Dreycin has been really cranky, winey and has also been throwing up after he eats. It got to the point on sunday night that he didnt sleep at all. Along with baby 411 which I went to looking for answers, i also have my mom who again is a NICU nurse and takes care of premie babies. One common theme with premie babies is acid reflux. Dreycin was definitely showing signs of a baby with reflux. He really looked like he was in pain, so yesterday we went to the doctor and was given a RX for liquid zantac 2x per day. He weighed in at 8lbs 12oz, so obviously is still gaining weight with the throwups here and there. The doctor even said that if he kept gaining weight he would have to go on baby watchers, he was just kidding he said that breastfed babies always tend to gain more weight. So we have been on zantac 2days, last night was a really good night. Everyone got sleep and there was no upset baby! This afternoon he was a little irritable, and did throw up a little bit after his noon feeding but its definitely better than a couple of days ago. He is also going about 3.5-4hrs for every feeding. Derek got home tonight and Dreycin was still not feeling good, and I really needed a shower so I got the sleepy wrap out and now as I type (fresh and clean) daddy and dreycin are sitting in the rocking chair knocked out....ahh peace and quiet! Derek hates to hear Dreycin cry and is still working on figuring out how to hold him, console him so I thought that the wrap would be perfect so that Derek wouldnt even have to use his hands and Dreycin would feel very close/comforted. It worked...

My mom and dad went back to Texas this morning but my mom will be back on saturday. Sad to see them go, but it will be nice to have our house to just us for 1 night. Derek's mom is coming to stay with us for thanksgiving, hopefully it will be nice and quiet! My parents left food ready, house cleaned, laundry done so that I wouldnt have to do anything, i LOVE my parents so much!

3yr anniversary date

Today was our 3yr anniversary, we went to take Dreycin's newborn pics at Sears. It was the same one we got our maternity pics at which we were really happy with. Dreycin was so good and only woke up for his bare bottom pic! Then tonight our baby nurse aka my mom watched Dreycin so we could go out to eat some sushi!

Bathtime

Last night we gave Dreycin another bath, but this time we were able to actually put him in water since his umbilical cord stub fell off! I took the top half Derek did the bottom half! Here are some pics of bathtime with my adorable son!

This is a pic of my acupuncture/chiropractor Dr Brown, and as he calls Dreycin Sexy Rexy. I really believe that my alternative practices with my health also helped my pregnancy, and to that I owe Dr Brown so much! Dreycin is so lucky to have so many grandpa's!!!

Recovery Update

So I got on the scale today it read 183.8 and my final pregnancy weight was 204? I really cant believe how the weight has just melted off! Ive been wearing this postpartum support belly band thing, i guess its helped? Ive also eaten at home instead of eating out. I started the pregnancy at 180lbs. I would like to lose a little extra because my doc said that my gestational hypertension was like a precursor to what i will probably deal with at an older age, like my father and my mother's mother. Looking back to when Derek and I got married, our 3yr anniversary is this weekend, I weighed 145 and would like to be somewhere around that number!! Back to my recovery.....I think at some point my stitches disolved because this week is a whole different type of pain, plus i still have the oh glory's.....so I feel like i cant ever sit on my bottom and have to stand up straight very slowly. I always sit on pillows and ice packs, or lay on the couch which is really hard to get up from with Dreycin. I love my pottery barn rocking chair for nursing but right now I cant wait to get up from it because id rather be lying down! For some reason I didnt think it would be like this, and I doubt I will start working out next week like my Dr suggested. Maybe walking but not the elliptical that i have here at home.


My little piggy is doing well we have had 2 rought nights, last night was rough because Derek had to go to work at 5am and I didnt want Dreycin to wake him up by crying so we hung out in the living room to take a nap.....because afterall Im feeding every 2.5-3hrs, burp, change, and put to sleep = 1.5hr for me to sleep?! Well the living room was a bad idea I guess because Dreycin would not go to sleep, he was wide awake. I guess that goes along with trying to figure out a schedule. We made up by feeding at 5am, and sleeping from 6-10am, which was very NICE!!! Dreycin is like my alarm clock now, he wakes me up with his little pre-feeding noises and if we go a little longer during the night my pediatrician said that was fine! They also gave me little tips like dont swaddle during the day, and be sure to wake him up for his feedings every 3hrs at least. As i write this he is taking a nap on my mom's chest and It makes me so happy that she is here to share this wonderful little miracle with us and im very grateful that she sacrificed so much to come so far away from home!

Happy 1wk Bday Dreycin

On Monday Dreycin was one week old, I already cant believe its been a week since I delivered him! We went to our pediatrician appointment and he was already at
8lbs! that means that over this weekend, since Friday my little piggy gained like
10oz thanks to my abundance of milk that came in! My parents, Derek and I decided that today would be a good day to watch the delivery video, and while watching it I realized I left out some stuff!
I completely forgot I was throwing up while trying to push him down, which Ariel my nurse was like just keep letting her it is actually helping Dreycin to come down more. I also didnt see that my doc pulled out that handles in the bed because he realized I just wasnt getting the physical support I needed to push from Derek and my mom. There was a part in the delivery where they took Dreycin and did his footprints, but I didnt get to see any of it because my parents and derek were standing around the warmer he was placed in, so i got to see that too. I also got to watch Dreycin's first bath in the nursery, which obviously I didnt get to go to!
Last night Dreycin actually let me get some good shut eye! And he slept in his crib, for some reason he hates the playard? so i think for the time being we are going to move the crib in our rooom so we can continue to get sleep in 3hr increments! The pediatrician said that letting him go longer than 3hrs on his feeds at night were ok to do. He is definitely feeding very well, during the day it varies from every 2hrs-
3hrs. The only thing we have been dealing with is a little acid reflux, which my mom recognizes being a NICU nurse and we have been keeping him upright after feeds. He has been a little irritable with some bouts of gas, but for the most part he is a perfect baby. When you talk to him he listens so intently, and gives you great eye contact. He especially likes when my mom speaks to him in spanish! Last night we tried some tummy time and Dreycin was really strong with his head, arms and feet!

Dreycin's First Bath

Dreycin's first bath was a success, he barely cried and was so relaxed afterwards I had to wake him up for his feeding. He is a week old tomorrow and Derek and I are still trying to figure out who he is going to look like? When we look at his hair, it is so much lighter than both of ours and of course right now his eyes are still dark blue/green? Im sure they will eventually change to brown which is what our eye color is. Here are pictures!!
