Oh Glory Glory......Hemorrhoids

This may be too much information for some of you that havent been pregnant so BEWARE AS YOU READ ON!

So how come no one talks about the not so fun things in pregnancy. like the last 1.5wks of pregnancy where you have sharp pains from the baby being so far down in your pelvis that it hurts to walk, not to mention the rectal pressure the baby is putting on you which then causes Hemorrhoids?! Which today my doctor said that we can treat the pain and soreness but during pregnancy there is just not alot you can do, GREAT! This week i have been walking alot (since im 38wks and WANT to go into labor) which at this point made the hemorrhoids worse i think, so if you have hemorrhoids walking is not what you are suppose to be doing. Or how about that I have had to wear panty liners pretty much from the 1st trimester. Oh and let me add that this week I have officially reached that point where I can no longer sleep through the night, my sleep is like little naps I wake up ALOT to go pee or because my hips are aching so bad from sleeping on them for the past umm...10months, plus switching sides and moving my belly with my almost 8lb baby in it is not easy. Derek is also being deprived of sleep, everytime I go to get up he wakes up a little. If i take too long in the bathroom he says "R u ok" I think he is consciously not sleeping well because I could go into labor at any point now (hint hint Dreycin, come out come out wherever you are). The heartburn is also AWFUL, I eat so much TUMS extra strength that I often now wake up with a very dry mouth, with a bad after taste. Dreycin showed us on monday that he has a lot of hair, so thank you Dreycin for giving mommy tons of heartburn. SO yea I am way ready for Dreycin to be born now, which I have been eating spicy foods, drinking mint/herbal teas, and Softening my cErviX. I think after talking to my doctor today about my options I am going to start my FMLA 12weeks on monday Nov 2nd. So Dreycin, once again Mommy and Daddy are very excited to meet you so you can come on out, head toward the light!

Pregnant on Plaquenil

Yesterday we had our 38wk checkup. Derek was really tired so my parents came along, while Derek caught up on his sleep(kind of ironic when you think about it, because that should be me) But Derek gets up at 4am or 5am almost every morning, and when he gets home is usually beyond exhausted and just wants to sleep......another reason im glad my mom is here to help! Our appt was ok yesterday, we did another ultrasound to do measurements and Dreycin is at 7.5lbs in the 68% percentile. He wouldn't wake up so I "failed" my biophysical profile and had to be put on the monitors for 30min. He did fine, started waking up as soon as they put the monitors on his/my belly territory! Its almost hard for me to believe that I am actually 38wks, from where I sat over a year ago. my mom and derek went with me last April 2008 to a Rheumatologist for my Lupus at Duke University for a consult about pregnancy. Of course everything we heard was sad at the time, but that is a doctor's job to tell you what you may or may not be up against. After that Derek and I decided we would keep trying (we started when he got home from Iraq Xmas 2007) and when things didnt go our way we stopped and started looking more and more at Adoption. I had a really bad Lupus flare in July 2008 and had to start plaquenil and steroids and for me that was it, I was throwing the towel in, I was done. Derek was heartbroken and angry. It was a tough time for us in our marriage. We were dealing with this and slew of other family drama and his postwar behavior. It was definitely a time of making our relationship better or it was going to be the breaking point. In July I focused on finding employment ironically with mothers and babies, Derek started school. Slowly we moved back into the idea of pregnancy when I found a really good OB/GYN here in Louisville in November 2008. She was so confident that everything would be ok now that my Lupus was being managed with Plaquenil
And that was the reality, if I were to get pregnant what were the risks to staying on all my medications, the ultimate outcome for me was to have a normal healthy baby. During this pregnancy we have had what seems like quite a few scares, 1st with the single umbilical artery then with the lateral ventricle enlargement, but now that we are near the end its more of a reality for me and probably Derek that we are going to have a normal healthy baby boy, Dreycin. So even though I have been pregnant on plaquenil for almost 10months, lupus didnt stop me from becoming a mother.

37wks & blood pressure issues....

So yesterday I thought it was going to be an easy doc appt, but when i got there my bp's were 146/101 and 139/101. I laid on my side for a little while and they went down to 133/96....so the doc said "off to the hospital you go." Again we were dealing with the possibility of onset of preeclampsia, plus I had a 3lb weight gain that I have no idea where it came from because im throwing up almost every morning and evening? They did find some protein in my urine so the doc also ordered a 24hr urine to rule out preeclampsia. Derek stayed with me in the hospital and my parents went home. My mom is in orientation this week at her new hospital, and there isnt much she could do since I was acting up in the hospital. The overnight stay was actually not that bad, when I would get put on the monitor I was constantly asking "am i having a contraction now." Up until yesterday I was pretty uncertain as to what they actually felt like because I feel like with my lupus I have a high tolerance for pain/discomfort. Derek or my mom would be like "Yes your having a contraction! So finally now i know, which is reassuring! I was contracting about every 8-12mins on the monitor. So anyways, around 9am two of my high risk docs came in with some students and told me I was free to go home and am suppose to check it 3x a day, and to call if they go over 140's/90's. No streneous activity, only with assistance. But they were both in agreement I could go back to work just to be sure to monitor my bp's. Again they asked what I do and they were like OH, well if you dont feel well then we'll go ahead & release you from work. I guess they have a pretty good idea what I do at work! So im going to see how tomorrow goes? After we got discharged I came home and my dad drove me to my massage appt (that I was determined to go to one at least one last time!) Now we are home, relaxing and monitoring bp's.

Scary stuff.....

First I'll say I love this time of year, the beautiful autumn colors, the coolness in the air, and all the yummy comfort foods. Ive been hooked on soups from whole foods like chicken tortilla and southern corn chowder with fresh cornbread! what has been scaring me though is all this talk about the H1N1 flu virus. I already got my flu shot but am not so keen on getting this vaccination, only because there has been no research done on it. I was watching the news and the CDC said they had a group of staff ready to fly out if someone happened to have a reaction to the vaccination. Now normally I wouldnt freak out about getting sick, but I do work in a hospital and right now if there is anyone with suspected H1N1 they are put on contact isolation. Plus with Lupus, i have a compromised immune system already + asthma + being pregnant = would not be good at all. Recently we found out Derek's grandpa had the H1N1 (he's in Dallas)and he barely could talk to us on the phone his breathing was so bad. It seems to be spreading more rapidly in bigger cities, but still STAY AWAY if you have been exposed. My job has also sent out an email saying that if you have been exposed you can not work until after 4 days with no symptoms, and 7 days if you had symptoms. And if you have 2 or more symptoms off the list of possible influenza like illness you can not come to work. CRAZINESS....Recently when I go places, i try to go during non peak hours. Like last weekend we went and saw Cloudy with a chance of meatballs at like 5pm, and last night we went to whole foods at like 8pm and thankfully at both places it was pretty empty.

Elliot is here this weekend dropping his car off and all his belongings before he is deployed this next weekend. When I asked him about how he was feeling he said "I dont think anyone can ever be prepared for what I am about to go through." Its sad, but in the long run he made the best decision for him. He even got promoted to E4 Specialist on Thursday! It was funny because Derek was like "thats not fair"
In the Marines it takes twice, maybe 3x as much time to get promoted.

I can tell im getting closer, it seems as if im always tired and with a headache, which Im also blaming on the weather changes and my sinuses. It hasnt been so bad sleeping at night, just a pain to get switch sides when im sleeping or having to get up and go pee 5x a night. seems like as soon as I stand up I have to go pee now a days. I went and saw my acupuncture doctor yesterday and he told me he thought I had maybe 10more days, we'll see about that. My parents get here this week on Thursday evening, and my mom starts working on Oct 19th. My braxton hicks are coming more frequently and sharper, yesterday they were all morning and afternoon with no pattern really. Im wondering too if work hasnt been a factor in my increased braxton hicks. Although im only working 4hrs a day, I dont think this week one of those days i have been sitting. Im constantly on my feet, and have been completely swamped this week with complex mother/baby "social issues." We have been short staffed too which doesnt help me, especially when I have to weed out certain cases/patients to see in the 4hrs im there on severity of the case. At least my feet have not begun to swell, if they have its barely anything at all. my shoes were a little tight today, and i have greatly loosened the tennis shoes ive been wearing to work. I am going to try and start walking starting tomorrow, me and Derek have gone on some walks but not like i need to! I havent done any water aerobics in the past 4wks so i feel like i need to do something! My appetite is WAY UP, i could eat nonstop i feel like....well except when i have the braxton hicks going on i just want to drink water. yesterday i even had some ckn flavor ramen noodles because my body was screaming WARM and CARBS!

I love the weekends to sleep in!!! defn going to miss that here soon :)

Belly Pics at 35wks

I am now 35wks, I really can't believe it! We are sooo close to welcoming Dreycin! I decided to put these on the blog and just share with close friends and family. We have picked out our favorite ones, but bought the entire CD at Sears so if we want we can make copies of pics. Derek and I were really happy these pics turned out good tonight! We also went to our 35wk OB appt today, everything was well....until i got on the scale. im officially 200lbs. But my Ob said I have done really well with my weight so I should have no worries. He even told me I could start working out at home on my elliptical 2wks after I have Dreycin! I told the doc that I am most scared of delivering a 10 lb baby, he said he definitely thought Dreycin would be 8lbs or more. He also thinks ill either go to or past my due date, so maybe Derek will get out of going to the Marine Corps Bday Ball(thats what he is hoping)!!
Hope ya'll enjoy the pics!
